"What's that?" you ask.

"Why it's a resophonic guitar." says I. "Nifty, eh?"

"Why did you screw that hubcap to the top of it?"

And that pretty much sums up the beginning of the conversation. I started playing - or at least trying to play - about 5 years ago. This particular style guitar is most commonly found in bluegrass bands but is rapidly gaining popularity in many other genres of music. Played expertly by the likes of Jerry Douglas, Rob Ickes, and a host of others, it has the voice of an angel. Played by a hack - such as yours truly - it can sound like a cat being strangled. But I soldier on and day by day get a little better. Once I get the hang of this blog thing, I'll post some audio clips. In the mean time, check out Jerry and Rob's sites.

Beautiful guitar, Eric! Looking forward to hearing you play it live soon. And, it reminds me that I need to get back to my guitar playing (the Yamaha electric is looking forlorn in the corner of my room these days).
